“Beautiful… almost heavenly”

When the first UK lockdown was in full effect, I used my ‘one permitted outdoor exercise’ to go out walking before dawn.
With no planes, no cars and no people about, it was the ideal opportunity to marvel at nature’s sounds in a pristine environment. It hasn’t sounded like this for over 200 years – before the Industrial Revolution. You could hear only birdsong for miles and miles. Of course, there were other creatures too…
It seemed good to capture this, so that we can all discover some treasures from lockdown. Find your treasure here.
Now that the background noise has returned to our lives again, this is a positive and rather beautiful memory of a troubled time.
The resulting recordings are of dawn chorus and other sounds in town and country. Hopefully it will bring a smile to our faces!
